Webquest Summary
We are creating a webquest on this topic: Do girls and boys learn math better together in the same class, or in separate classes?
We want the students to research the question and then hold a debate.
In general, the tasks would include:
Do some research on the question (learn the history, survey current research, read some opinions, form your own opinions)
Learn about debate techniques
Choose a side and meet with your team to come up with arguments
Hold the debate.
Video tape the debate and have students self-assess using the rubric.
Here are some ideas about specific topics they would have to research:
History - what insights on this question can we gain from the experiences of
famous male
and famour
female mathematicians
?
What does recent research have to say about the issue of
male and female ability and performance in mathematics
?
What are some opinions that lean toward
separating genders
, and what are some that favor
integration of genders
?
